Downtime can be very expensive. Technology research firm Gartner gives a conservative estimate for the hourly cost of network downtime to be about $42,000. Firms generally experience about 175 hours of downtime a year due to network failure, possibly costing them up to 7 million in losses. Of course the cost varies from company to company depending on the size of the busines, but even for a small companies, an average loss of $314 an hour (~$55,112 per annum) is not uncommon.
